Abstract
699,148. Circulating furnace atmospheres. EISEN-UND HUTTENWERKE AKT.-GES. June 1, 1951 [June 1, 1950], No. 13094/51. Class 51(ii) In an annealing furnace having an internal atmosphere-circulating fan 3 mounted on the end of a shaft 4, the said shaft is cooled by passing furnace atmosphere gas from a pipe 7 through an annular chamber 8 surrounding the shaft which latter has contacting sleeves 13 and 14 formed with fins 11 and 12 respectively, and through a port 9 into the furnace cover 2. The shaft is supported by water-cooled roller bearings 17 and 18 and a water jacket 19 surrounds the chamber 8 between the bearings. The upper part of the chamber 8 has stationary fins 15 defining with the fins 12 a sinuous path for the incoming gases. Exhaust apertures 20 are provided for the atmosphere gas and for any oil vapours driven off the load e.g. coiled strip.
