698,838. Drying sludgy material. BUTTNERWERKE, AKT.-GES. July 20,1951. No. 17272/51. Class 34 (ii) In a method of drying sludgy material in apparatus in which the material passes successively over superposed rotating annular plates 2 having gaps for the passage of material, fixed strippers 7 removing the material from each plate while air heated by heaters 5 is distributed by fans 4, the material which is fed in as small elements is again broken up by passage through a grate 8 having a roller 9 at the point in the drying process at which the extent of the drying is such that further lump formation is obviated and then final drying takes place. In a modification of the apparatus a whole stage may be of grate-form with a device such as a roller with fingers arranged above to force the material therethrough.
