Abstract

698,824. Moulding concrete blocks &c. HEIDENSTAM, E. J. VON. April 23, 1951, No. 9405/51. Class 87 (ii). Blocks or other building elements of concrete or other cementitious material are shaped in a mould above the surface of a depositing bed, the mould being associated with a casting machine connected to a carriage movable along the depositing bed, a layer of such elements is placed on the bed and covered with a layer of sand or other granular filling material, and another layer of elements is moulded and placed upon the covered first layer. The second layer of elements may then be covered with sand and a third layer placed thereon, and so on. Figs. 1 and 2 show a carriage 1 on wheels 2 running on rails 3 along a depositing bed 4. A mould 5 having vibrators 6 is suspended by elastic cords 7 (e.g. of rubber) from a transverse carriage 10 running on rails 12 on carriage 1. In operation, concrete is filled from hopper 13 into the mould and vibrated, and the mould is lowered from the position shown by turning rollers 15 on which the cords are wound; it is. lowered until hinge pins 14 on the mould rest in bearings 8a at the lower end of racks 8 on carriage 10. The cords (which are elastic for the purpose of not transmitting vibration from the mould to the carriage) are then detached from the mould, and the mould'is turned upside down on its hinge pins 14: the block adheres to the reversed mould. The racks are then lowered by turning pinions 9, until the block 17 rests on the bed. The block is freed from the mould and covered with sand and the empty mould is returned to the position shown. Clay may be mixed with the sand and the upper surface of the depositing bed may be shaped. Instead of being turned upside down, the mould may be turned through 90 degrees. The carriage may support several moulds and a sand-containing hopper Fig. 12 (not shown). Two depositing beds may be bounded by side walls on which run a carriage and a telpher hoist Fig. 14 (not shown). Figs. 5 and 6 show a mould 5 for casting a slab 16 curved in two directions, the mould being shown after it has been turned upside down about a hollow pivot 14. The pivot is hollow for the purpose of sucking air through pipes 29 from sand 27 in the mould, the sand being used to reduce contact between the concrete and the mould and to distribute the suction within the mould. The suction holds the slab in the mould and is produced by fan 36 driven by motor 37. A thin sheet of rubber or clay may be placed on the slab to render it airtight, or wear resisting or coloured mortar may be applied thereto, removable side mould plates being used as guides for working tools. When the slab is to be deposited on the bed the suction is cut off. Hollow tube-like bodies closed at one end may be stood on one end on the depositing bed, being filled with sand or empty Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). Fig. 9 shows another mould 5 movable in guides 54b attached to the carriage 10. The mould has small cogs 5k which co-operate with pins 54c on the guides to turn the mould upside down as shown. A plate 55b attached to the carriage levels the material on the depositing bed. Fig. 13 shows a vertically slidable mould 60 which deposits an element on the horizontal part 61a of a plate 61, whence the element is pushed by a plate 62 into the desired position on the bed. A scheme for utilizing four depositing beds in rotation is described. Figs. 15- 18 (not shown).
