Abstract
698,809. Vapour burners. PARR, K. Sept. 19, 1950 [Sept. 21, 1949], No. 22969/50. Class 75(i) A vapour burner is provided with a device for silencing the combustion, comprising two superposed saucer-shaped members spaced apart to provide a gas spreading passageway into which the fuelair mixture enters through a hole in the lower member, and which is adapted to prevent the ignition of the mixture therein, the upper member being protected by heat insulation from radiation of heat from the burner flame. A vaporizing tube, Fig. 1, upstands from a tray 2 in which a light fuel oil is burnt for preheating the liquid fuel, e.g. paraffin oil supplied under pressure to the tube 3, and vapour thus generated issues from a jet 5 above which is supported by pillars 7 the burner head 6. The latter comprises a pair of spaced superposed saucers 11, 13, Fig. 2, the lower saucer 11 having an aperture 12 for receiving a mixture of fuel vapour and induced air which passes through the passage 24 between the saucers to..an annular burner mouth where it is ignited, the spreading of the fuel-air mixture in the passage 24 ensuring steady, quiet combustion. The saucer 13 is supported on the saucer 11 by means of pins 14 which have extensions 16 engaging holes in the saucer 11 and are of elongated crosssection, to minimize opposition to the flow of the combustible mixture. In order to provide an even flame around the whole periphery of the burner mouth the parts 27 of the mouth where the flow is affected by the pins 14 are narrower than the remaining parts 28. In addition, a restric tion 26 provided in the passage 24 assists in rendering the flow even, the passage 24 being tapered outwardly from the restriction 26 to the parts 28 of the mouth. During operation of the burner the upper end 25 of the vaporizing tube is heated by the burner flame. The saucer 13 is protected from heat radiation from the flame by a layer of asbestos 19 supported therewithin by a metal disc 18 and a central pillar 23 from which extends. a screw 22 serving as a handle for removing the saucer 13.
