Abstract
698,012. Tyre retreading moulds. SUPER MOLD CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA. Aug. 3, 1951, No. 18438/51. Class 87 (ii) A tyre locating device, for a tyre retreading mould including' an annular body having a matrix therein, comprises a flat-faced rim concentric to and spaced radially inwardly of the matrix, a pair of spaced tyre head engaging rings relatively slidably disposed on the flat-faced rim for axial separation, and means between the rings and body operative to limit axial separation of the rings and to maintain the latter symmetrical to the matrix. The tyre head engaging rings 8 are mounted on a wide flat-faced rim 7 and can slide axially on it, the rim 7 being concentric with the annular mould halves 2. The mould halves 2, with steam chambers C, enclose matrix halves 5 and are brought together by power operated means, not shown, the tyre to be retreaded being in position in the mould (a slot 18 being provided in the rim 7 for a stem 17 on the inner tube). When the tyre is inflated the head engaging rims 8 are forced apart until their flanges 14 meet skirts 3 expanding inwards from the mould halves 2, so holding the tyre heads symmetrically and concentric with the matrix, and preventing vulcanization of the tread on the tyre off centre. When the mould is used in the flat position a bead 19 prevents the rim 7 from dropping out of position. The distance between the tyre heads may be adjusted by using head engaging rims with differently-shaped flanges.
