Abstract
697,943. Cleaning tubes. CLARKSON, A., and VAPOR HEATING CORPORATION. Feb. 18, 1952 [March 1, 1951], No. 4266/52. Class 99 (ii). Abrasive material 26, e.g. small pellets of irregular shapes and sizes and preferably of hardened steel, for removing scale and mineral sludge from the water tubing 10 of a boiler or steam generator is stored in a chamber 25a having a discharge opening controlled by a valve 34 and communicating, e.g., via a chamber 12, with the inlet end of the tubing 10, and when a quantity of the pellets is passed through the opened valve into the chamber 12 the pellets are propelled through the tubing by a stream of fluid under pressure, e.g. delivered from a valved pipe 13. Means, such as a number of removable spacedapart plates 42 having curved edges, communicate with the outlet end of the tubing 10 to deflect the pellets out of the path of the fluid and into a receiving chamber 24a provided with a valvecontrolled discharge opening 27 leading to the chamber 25a. The pressure fluid may pass, with the scale, etc., into a steam separator 22.
