697,915. Ladles for the pneumatic treatment of molten metal. SOC. L'AIR LIQUIDE, SOC. ANON. POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES G. CLAUDE. Oct. 30, 1950 [Nov. 3, 1949], No. 26453/50. Classes 72 and 82(i) In a ladle for gas flushing molten metal, as described in Specification 671,678, the side surface of the plug is wholly coated with a metallic coating impervious to gases to prevent leakage. The metal coating may be in the form of a stamped metal shell into which a pre-formed plug is cemented or which acts as a mould for materials which bind together without fixing. In the latter case, the metal shell 6 is bound both with the refractory plug, e.g. by a spider 10, 12, Fig. 3, or by corrugations 15, Fig. 4, and with the ladle by screws 13. Some of the components of the plug may react with the metal shell and form cementing compounds. The metal coating may be sprayed on. In one form of ladle, Fig. 9, the plug 800 having its smaller base in contact with the molten metal has a metallic coating 802 and is secured to the part- 804 by a spider 820 and a screw 826. The part 804, which has a cover 818 thus forming a blast box, is secured to the metallic housing 828 of the ladle by bolts 894. The metal part 804 is only continued to a posi-. tion adjacent the surface of the ladle lining in contact with the molten metal bath.
