Abstract

697,585. Luminescent screens. RAULAND CORPORATION. Dec. 28, 1951 [Dec. 29, 1950], No. 30283/51. Class 39(i). In making a cathode-ray tube in which the fluorescent screen is coated with an organic film on which a metal backing layer is deposited, the same charge of liquid is used for settling the screen and then forming the film. After the screen has settled, the bulb is tilted through a small angle A, and so maintained while the film-forming process is carried out. This is to prevent the film forming on a liquid surface which is smaller than the screen surface eventually to be covered after decanting off the liquid. The angle of tilt may be from 5 degrees to 20 degrees, depending on the configuration of the bulb and the amount of liquid, and is defined in terms of dimensions of the liquid surface produced. The least depth d of the liquid is similarly defined. Suitable compositions are given for the fluorescent screen,.the film solution, and the settling liquid: and the metal backing may be aluminium, lithium, beryllium, or magnesium. Specification 645,633 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 656,531.
