[Also in Groups XIX and XXXVII] A temperature gauge of the type having a control coil B which is responsive to temperature changes and is capable of moving a pointer A over a temperature scale C includes a switchoperating plate A<SP>2</SP> movable with the pointer A to engage a switch D<SP>1</SP>, the control coil B being connected by a link a<SP>1</SP> to a lever A<SP>1</SP> pivoted on the pointer spindle a, and the lever A<SP>1</SP> transmitting its motion to the switch plate and pointer through a leaf-spring A<SP>3</SP> in such a manner that the switch plate and pointer can be moved manually, if desired, towards the switch D to test the setting at which it will operate without disconnecting the link a<SP>1</SP>. When the lever A<SP>1</SP> is moving clockwise, it engages a pin a<SP>5</SP> on the switch plate A<SP>2</SP> to move the switch plate and pointer clockwise. When the lever A' moves anticlockwise the leafspring A<SP>3</SP> connecting the lever A<SP>1</SP> to the switch plate A<SP>2</SP> causes corresponding movement of the switch plate A<SP>2</SP> and the pointer A. The switch D<SP>1</SP> may be of the mercury type and is adjustable in a slotted member d relatively to the scale. When the switch D<SP>1</SP> has been adjusted to a new position the switch plate A<SP>2</SP> and consequently the pointer A may be moved manually clockwise by means of a pivoted arm D<SP>3</SP> engageable with the switch plate A<SP>2</SP> to check the setting at which the switch will operate, flexure of the leaf-spring A<SP>3</SP> permitting this motion to be made without disconnecting the link a<SP>1</SP> between the lever A<SP>1</SP> and the control coil B. The arm D<SP>3</SP> may be turned by a knob external to the casing of the gauge. A telltale pointer A<SP>4</SP> may be used to indicate the maximum movement of the pointer A, the telltale pointer A<SP>4</SP> being moved by a pin a' depending from the pointer A and being returned to zero when desired by an anticlockwise move. ment of said knob causing a wire attached to the pivot of the lever D<SP>3</SP> to engage and move the tail end of the pointer A<SP>4</SP>. The coil B may be a Bourdon tube.
