Abstract

697,023. Making vehicle bumper-bars; jointing. WILMOT-BREEDEN, Ltd. Aug. 16, 1951 [Oct. 11, 1950], No. 24809/50. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). Vehicle bumper-bars are made by applying to one of the faces of a steel bar a, a thin strip b of corrosion-resisting metal, such as nickel or nickel alloy, of greater width than the bar, the strip being attached by an adhesive c, shaping the combined bar and strip to the desired form, and finally bending the projecting edges of the strip over the edges of the bar. The assembly may be chromium plated, or the strip only may be chromium plated and the back of the bar covered by a coating of protective paint. The adhesive may be of the phenol- or urea-formaldehyde type.
