Abstract

696,420. Hinges. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., and JAGUAR CARS, Ltd. Aug. 22, 1951 [May 23, 1950] No. 12940/50. Class 65 (ii) A hinged structure includes an opening closed by a member mounted on hinge straps each of which is secured, through the intermediary of co-operating cams or the like, to the free end of torsion bar means, the other end of which is secured within the opening. As shown, the cover of the luggage compartment of a motor vehicle is mounted on straps 15 pivoted at their respective lower ends to spaced brackets 16, 17 within the compartment. Mounted on each said pivot is a cam 22 which is connected by a metal band 26 to a cam 21, one of the latter being fixed to the free end of a torsion bar 23 journalled in bracket 17 and fixed at the other end to bracket 16, and the other being fixed to the free end of a torsion bar 24 journalled in bracket 16 and fixed at its other end to bracket 17. In a modification the cams are toothed and intermeshed. In a further modification each pair of toothed cams is interconnected by a sprocket chain.
