Abstract

696,170. Rectifying; transformers. PHILCO CORPORATION. Sept. 6, 1951 [Sept. 6, 1950], No. 21089/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (ii). A combined deflection and E.H.T. supply system of the " flyback " type for cathode-ray tubes comprises a source of energy, a deflection yoke for the tube and a rectifying circuit for the E.H.T., the energy required by the rectifying circuit constituting a relatively large fraction of the energy supplied by the source to both the deflection yoke and the rectifying circuit, and a transformer, the magnetic core of which has an air gap sufficiently large to cause a portion of the energy supplied by the source to be stored in the field surrounding the transformer, this portion being substantially the portion required by the E.H.T. rectifying circuit. The transformer comprises a rod-like dust core secured inside an insulating former on which are placed the windings, the high voltage winding being in the general form of a disc and surrounding the low voltage winding. Further windings, such as valve heater windings, may also be placed on the former. The whole winding assembly is carried by a U-shaped bracket to which is attached a terminal tag board. With the above arrangement, a higher amount of power may be obtained from the E.H.T. rectifying circuit while not producing too high an amount of energy in the deflection yoke. Specification 687,762, [Group XL (a)], is referred to.
