Abstract
694,298. Grinding and polishing glass. GLACERIES DE LA SAMBRE SOC. ANON. April 30, 1952 [May 16, 1951], No. 10915/52. Class 60. The two faces of a ribbon of glass are ground or polished simultaneously by tools 3, 4 having synchronised drives and mounted on rigidlyconnected supports 1, 2 reciprocated transversely of the glass so that the profiles of the upper and lower tools of each vertical pair remain in alignment during rotation. The tools may be circular, elliptical or of quadrilobate form. A coupling 15, which may be of the claw type, enables the upper and lower sets of tools to be aligned and permits the supports 1, 2, which are inter-connected by supports 5 and conical studs 11, to be separated. A motor 8, reduction gear 9 and connecting rod 10 serve to reciprocate the supports while a second motor 12 rotates the tools through shafts and bevel gearing.
