Abstract
491,851. Grinding and polishing glass. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., WALDRON, F. B., and GRIFFIN, J. H. March 9, 1937, No. 6938. [Class 60] In apparatus for grinding a glass strip simultaneously on both sides, wherein the strip 1 is fed lengthwise by opposed rollers 4, 5 and is operated upon by upper and lower opposed tools 2, 3, the lower rollers 5 are made of relatively hard material, for example, rubber, so as to flatten radially only slightly in contact with the strip, and the upper rollers 4 are made of relatively soft material, so as to flatten at least twice as much. The operative faces of all of the tools 3, and of the rollers 5, when flattened, are adjusted to lie in a single plane. The tools 3 are adjusted by screws 12 and the rollers 4, 5, carried respectively by bearings 17, 18 slidable in uprights 19, are adjusted by screws 21, 20 respectively.
