Abstract

693,845. Elastic valves. SAUNDERS VALVE CO., Ltd. Oct. 9, 1951 [Oct. 9, 1950], No. 24616/50. Class 135 In a diaphragm valve in which the unclamped portion of the diaphragm 1 comprises a deep substantially conical part 2 terminating in a comparatively thick rounded central part 4 in which is secured a headed stud 8 which does not pass through the diaphragm, the stud is made additionally secure by the provision of a separate head 9 which is a loose fit on the shank of the stud and is larger than the integral head 10 thereof. The loose head 9 has apertures 11 through which the material of the diaphragm extends. The head 9 may be of annular trough form as shown in the case of a countersunk-headed stud 8, or of dished or part-spherical form in the case of a flat-headed stud. In either case its outer periphery is curved to blend with the contour of the rounded end 4. To keep the parts together prior to the diaphragm moulding operation, the loose head 9 is retained by a cross pin 12. Fabric reinforcement may be wrapped about the integral stud head 10 as described in Specification 685,935. The diaphragm may have additional reinforcement such as the fabric layers 6, 7. Specifications 434,665, 541,828, and 657,324 also are referred to.
