Abstract
693,822. Knitting. DUBIED & CIE. SOC. ANON., E. May 25, 1949 [June 3, 1948], No. 14030/49. Class 74 (ii). Patterned fabric, as shown in Fig. 1, is produced on a single bed of a two bed flat machine by feeding yarn to the needles from at least two thread carriers which during their traverse do not cross or pass one another. As described a flat machine has four thread carriers 1 ... 4 each feeding a different yarn, the carriers being mounted on blocks 1<SP>1</SP> ... 4<SP>1</SP> slidable on guide bars 19, 20, two blocks 1<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP> and 2<SP>1</SP> 4<SP>1</SP>, being mounted on opposite sides of the guide bars 19 and 20 respectively. Main drivers 9 .. 12 and auxiliary drivers 13, 14 are provided on the double cam locks 7, 8 for both beds of the machine and are adapted to drive the carriers to feed yarns to predetermined needles which are selected to receive the yarns by Jacquard mechanism. Since the needles 18 of one bed only are operative the Jacquard mechanism makes a double selection to enable needles to be operated by the forward or rear stitch cams of the double cam lock movable along that bed. The main drivers 9 ... 12 are positioned on the cam locks so as to enable yarns of the carriers driven by them to be fed to the needles operated by the front or rear stitch cams 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP> in Fig. 3. Each of the auxiliary drivers 13, 14 is arranged to move a carrier for part of the traverse of the carriage without its yarn being taken by the needles, and thereafter the auxiliary driver is disengaged from the block of the carrier to allow the following main driver, 10 or 12 in Fig. 3 to engage the block during further traverse of the carriage in which period the carrier feeds yarn to selected needles. Ramps 6 are provided at desired intervals to permit the transfer of a carrier driven from an auxiliary driver to a main driver, and stops 5 are provided for disengaging the carriers from the drivers at the end of their traverse. During the reverse movement of the carriage the drivers act in the reverse order.
