Abstract
693,399. Yarn-storage and advancing apparatus &c. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. May 1, 1951 [July 6, 1950], No. 10201/51. Class 120(ii) A method of handling a plurality of yarns together on a yarn-storage, yarnadvancing device having a certain pitch is characterised in that the yarns are directed to one end of the device spaced apart from each other a distance that is approximately equal to a whole number times the pitch, a plurality of turns of the yarns being formed on the device, and the yarns being; brought together by shifting the position of one of them laterally along the device a distance approximately equal to a whole number times the pitch of the device. As. shown, filaments A, B from spinnerets 1, 2: are guided to a reel 5, which may comprise interdigitating bars, rotating about eccentrically inclined axes, the filaments then being led to the device 7 (which may be similar to the device 5) in spaced relationship, the filament B passing through the notch 9 of the guide member 6 and the filament A through the notch 8 thereof. The filaments A and B, after several revolutions of the device 7, advance side by side, towards the discharge end of the device 7. Filament A is now removed from notch 8 and placed with filament B in notch 9. In similar manner, at a later stage, the yarns A, B, which were delivered from device 7 to device 10, in spaced relationship, are subsequently moved into the same notch in the guide 11 (see Fig. 2). Again, the yarns A and B, which were delivered together from the device 10 to the device 12, comprising rotatable drums 14 whose axes are canted with respect to each other, are guided firstly by a single notch in the guiding device 13, but are subsequently separated into two notches in the guide 13 and later wound up on to separate packages 15. This method of handling a plurality of yarns during treatment allows of the length of the devices to be reduced.
