Abstract

692,749. Dental drills. KERR MANUFACTURING CO. April 25, 1951 [June 5, 1950], No. 9667/51. Class 81 (ii). A dental tool comprises a shank element B provided with a socket D, and a cutter element A formed of very hard material having a portion C forming an insert within said socket effective to cause expansion of the latter but within the elastic limit of the material from which the socket is formed. The element A may be formed of a carbide preferably tungsten carbide whilst the shank element may be of stainless steel. The carbide element A may be pushed into the shank in an unfinished form and subsequently cut (Fig. 4) or both the shank and the cutter element may be joined prior to the final finishing process (Fig. 6).
