Abstract
<PICT:0692109/III/1> In a process for the manufacture of sulphuric acid in which sulphur dioxide is oxidized to sulphur trioxide in a contact vessel and the hot sulphur trioxide is condensed with steam, with cooling, to sulphuric acid, the hot sulphur trioxide-steam mixture is drawn into and condensed in an aspirator by impact with a jet of cold sulphuric acid. The gases are sucked from a contact vessel through pipe c into aspirator d, having cast iron or quartz walls, by sulphuric acid at 20 DEG C introduced under pressure at e, and condensation results in mixing space f. The resulting sulphuric acid is passed through a tubular water cooler, and part of the cooled acid is recycled by pump to the aspirator d.
