Abstract

692,068. Fuel-injection pumps. STAEGE, W. April 27. 1951, No. 9849/51. Class 102 (i). In a fuel-injection pump, the piston 5 is connected to a tappet 7 of larger diameter and passes through a packing 6 which is radially deformable by fluid pressure into peripheral sealing contact with the piston. As shown in the Fig., the space 15 forms the suction reservoir and the piston 5 has an axial bore and is fitted with a valve 23 located within a cage 24 clipped on the piston. To control the delivery, the valve 23 is retained open during a part of the delivery stroke by a plunger 27 formed by a strip of metal twisted to form a helix. The end 28 of the strip is attached to an anchor pin 29 adjusted by an eccentric 30. The end 14 of the tappet may be sealed by the packing 43 and act as a feed pump. The space 15 has an inlet valve 17 and filter 18 and is fitted with an accumulator device, e.g. a spring-loaded diaphragm or piston.
