Class 100(ii) Inking-apparatus.-An ink-pump unit comprising an ink box having a plurality of pumps to draw ink from the box and to deliver ink to discharge ducts is formed to be detachably assembled with other similar units to build up the required width of inking, any unit being exchangeable for one containing a different colour ink. As shown each of four eight-column (page width) units 4 ... 7, Fig. 1, clamped by their dovetailed bases 15, Figs. 4 and 5, to a rail 8 and with removable covers 19 and handles 20, has a gear 12 by which its pumps are driven from a shaft 9 rotated by a chain drive 13 from the press-driven ink drum 1. The pumps are similar to those shown in Specification 152,657, [Class 100(ii)], their individual output being regulated by adjustable stops 38; blocks 41 beneath each pump may, by eccentric discs 45 operated by handles 47, be slid to the left (Fig. 4) from the operative position shown to a cut-off position wherein the supply space 30 is in communication with the pump bore 29 in all its positions and the passage 31 is isolated therefrom and from the discharge passage 32; tilting'of the pump plungers 21 and plate 28 is prevented by a number of crossheads 49, Fig. 5, which are fixed to the plate 28 by posts 48 passing through holes in the eccentric bar 22, and are kept level by rollers 50. The passages 32 lead to passages 33<SP>1</SP> and splayed outlets 33 formed as grooves in exchangeable plates 36 secured to an ink rail 37. Specification 665,323 is referred to.
