Abstract
690,817. Gramophones; starting and stopping. HUTCHINGS, E. L. Feb. 19, 1951 [Feb. 17, 1950]. No. 4072/50. Class 40 (ii). As the tone-arm advances across a record, an arm W on the tone-arm pivot U gradually moves an arm B towards the turntable spindle T. An arm L is slidably. mounted on the arm B by screws K engaging slots O, and a spring N holds the arm L against a projection E on the arm B. A feeler P is so mounted on the arm L that it has a limited longitudinal movement. When the tonearm reaches the "run-off" groove the arm B and therefore the arm L and feeler P are moved quickly towards the spindle T, and a projection S on the spindle strikes the feeler and moves it laterally. This movement frees the arm L from the projection E and allows the spring N to pull the arm L back and thus disengage a switch element M on the arm L from a corresponding switch element J on the arm B, to stop the driving motor. The feeler P is automatically re-set during the opening of the switch by a stud Q on the base plate which engages a lip on the end of the feeler. The switch is re-set by moving the tone-arm to a position beyond its initial position which causes an arm X to engage a lip H on the arm B and move the arm back until. the projection E engages the arm L.
