Class 59 [Also in Group XXX] A mill for grinding grain and the like between rollers (not shown) has a manually-adjustable device 12 to limit the activity of a feed detector 3 operating a servomotor 9 so that the output of the mill may be limited to less than its maximum. The servomotor 9 controls the starting and stopping of the drive to the rollers, the bringing together and the separation of the rollers, and the flap governing the extent of the gap between a segmental feed gate and a feed roller (not shown) according to the head of grain above the spring-urged detector. Bell-crank levers 6. 8 connected by a link 7 communicate movements of the detector 3 to the servomotor 9, and a chain-drive between a sprocket 20 on the lever 6 and a sprocket 12 on a hollow shaft 17 transmits these movements to a finger 22 on the shaft which co-operates with a scale 24 indicating the setting of the feed gate in terms of output of the mill. A hand-wheel 14 for rendering the servomotor operative also controls it by means of the cam 12 disposed beneath the detector 3 and supported on a shaft 13 carrying the handwheel. A pointer 15 on the shaft 13 indicates the' setting of the cam and therefore the maximum output of the mill at that setting. In the event of the mill operating for a long period at the output corresponding to the setting of the pointer 15, an alarm device (not shown), operating acoustically or optically, functions, indicating that the output of the mill could be increased by further adjustment of the hand-wheel 14. A hand-wheel 10, acting on the servomotor, is provided for adjusting the initial gap between the feed roller and the feed gate to suit the material to be ground.
