690,248. Electric welding. GRIP NUT CO. Feb. 7, 1951, No. 2988/51. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXV] Nuts to be welded to a plate have approximately hemispherical projections 16 to localize the heating areas. Ribs 18 projecting further than the projections 16 locate the nut in the hole in the plate and prevent the flash from flowing into the threads, deflecting it at 34 to weld the ribs to the wall of the hole. The ribs may be replaced by a continuous hexagonal flange or projection and the projection may have the shape 52, Fig. 10, sloping away at 50 to the edge of the rib or flange.
