Class 55(ii) Producer gas is carburetted by vaporizing petrol or by the method of wetting a large surface with water and applying liquid petrol thereto in a chamber into which the gas is admitted, the resulting mixture being extracted through a washing bath by means creating turbulence between the mixture and washing liquid. Producer gas is fed directly from the washing and cooling unit of the producer or from a holder through an inlet 51 into a petrol vaporizing chamber 17 which contains a rotary disc 50 and drum 18 mounted on a shaft 19 and partly immersed in a water bath 31. Petrol from a tank 39 is fed by an adjustable feed device 33 through a pipe 34 on to a distributer 35 to spread it over the outer surface of the drum. Solid particles are removed from the gas on entry by impingement on the disc 50 and the gas and petrol mixture is washed in its passage along a helix 21 within the drum to an axial outlet leading to a chamber 27 communicating with a gas holder. The petrol feed device comprises buckets 37 on a rotary disc 36 the petrol being supplied to pipe 34 through an arcuate mounted funnel 41 capable of displacement by a handle 43 to vary the amount of petrol collected from the buckets, or the funnel may have a displaceable cover for this purpose. Disc 36 and the drum shaft 19 are driven by an electric motor 45 through the agency of belting 46-48.
