Abstract

689,707. Friction clutches. MYFORD ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Sept. 26, 1951 [Sept. 26, 1950], No. 23509/50. Class 80 (ii). A friction clutch, for lathes &c. comprises a belt pulley A, freely mounted on a driven shaft B, having a drum portion C which may be engaged by two shoes F, G, pivoted at one end J to a plate D secured to the shaft, and urged apart at the other end by a cam K on a spindle L. An arm M is secured at one end to the spindle L for the purpose of turning the cam, and at its other end carries an adjusting screw engaged by a strut R resting in a socket Q in a slide 0, keyed for rotation with and axial movement within a recess in the shaft B. To engage' the clutch, a control lever P is moved to the right of Fig. 1, and the strut R thereby urged into the vertical position, thus rotating the cam K. The clutch may be adjusted for wear, &c., by means of the screw in the end of the arm M, and also by rotating the cam K relatively to the arm M.
