Abstract
689,317. Automatic bobbin-changing looms; weft cutting. FROMEL, O. Dec. 11, 1950 [Dec. 12, 19491, No. 31805/49. Class 142(iii) When a weft-feeler indicates that weft replenishment is necessary, a transfer shaft is turned, a bunter raised for engagement with the slay, and weft cutters at the selvedge and near the shuttle eye are opened. The transfer shaft 10 is turned by the engagement of a notched member with the weft hammer when a new bobbin is required, and a lever 11 thereon moves a part 12. A member 18 on the part 12 carries a roller 19 and is also moved and allows a bunter 21, pivoted on a lever 22, to be lowered into the path of an abutment on the slay. When the bunter is moved by the slay, the lever 22 pivots and the transferrer 28 thereon pushes the lowermost -bobbin into the shuttle, the exhausted bobbin being pushed out of the bottom of the shuttle. Displacement of the part 12 also causes a rod 24 thereon to turn a lever 16 carrying a weft cutter 30, a rod 32 pivoted at 34 to a fixed part of the loom opening the jaws. The jaws cut the weft as the lever 16 returns to its initial position. The shaft 10 also carries a lever 36, Fig. 10, which, when the shaft turns, moves a member 37 carrying a rod 40. The rod 40 displaces a bar 42 covering the shuttle-eye weft cutter. A step 45 on the movable blade 43 engages a stop 47 and holds the blades open until the slay, during its forward movement, strikes an extension 46 and closes the blades and returns the cutter to its initial position. This cutter holds the cut end. The transfer hammer is in two parts and can yield if it meets an obstruction. The magazine can also yield, and has a spring to retain the lowermost bobbin.
