Referring first more particularly to Fig. I of the drawings, a frame I 0 has appropriately journalled thereon crank shaft I l and a lower or main shaft l2, which latter may be driven from any suitable source of power in a known manner. The lay swords 13 are mounted on a sword shaft 14 and oscillate therewith. Sword shaft I4 is journalled in the frame and serves to support a part of the picking mechanism. Intermeshing gears l5 and I6 fixed on the shafts II and I2 respectively, actuate the oscillating lay beam l1 through pitmans 18, which are pivotally connected to the swords. Carried on the lay beam I1 is a reed l9 which is supported at its top by a reed cap 20, and the two shuttle boxes generally indicated at 2| and 22. Each shuttle box comprises two compartments, the construction of which will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
In general, the picking mechanism is the same on both sides of the loom; and fixed on the sword shaft l4 are supporting members 23 for the picker sticks 24. Pivoted at 25 is a treadle arm 26 carrying a shoe 21 adapted to be engaged with picker rollers 28, which are adjustably mounted (Fig. I)

The picker sticks are pivoted on short shafts 30 which are fixed on supporting members 23, and comprise a foot 31 for engagement with treadle 26 and an extension 32 whereto is attached one end of a spring 33 which is fixed at its other end to the loom frame Ill and tends to keep the picker stick in its outward position. Any conventional picker stick check means may be used, but since this forms no part of our invention, it is omitted for the sake of clarity. Spring 34 (Fig.1) fixed to the loom at one end tends to counterbalance the weight of the treadle.
Numerals 35 and 35' designate pickers which are built to conform to the shape of a cross-section of the shuttle boxes 2| and 22, and the picker stick extends upwardly through registering slots in the lay beam l1, the two shuttle compartments and the pickers.
Each shuttle box is mounted on the movable lay, and, as heretofore set forth, includes two shuttle compartments, one above the other, in which the shuttles 36 and 31 are boxed and held after pass ing through the sheds formed by the warp threads. The left-hand shuttle box 21 is of ordinary construction, but the right-hand shuttle box 22 is specially constructed in accordance with our invention, see Figs. IV-VII. Shuttle box 22 is on the replenishing side of the loom, and each of its compartments has a longitudinal slot aligned withan opening in the lay beam through which the exhausted or substantially exhausted bobbins are ejected at the time of replenishment. The rear side 38 of the shuttle box 22 comprises a fixed wall of wood or the like. This rear wall is slotted so that swell 39 pivoted on pin 40 ispositioned thereon to operate protector mechanism, check the shuttles and the like, all in a known manner. The front of the upper box compartment is divided into two parts 4| and 42, the part 4,l being pivoted at the outer extremity of the lay. The part.

This plate, along with pivoted plate 41, forms the bottom of theupper shuttle compartmen't. The plate 41 pivots about'a pin 48 which passes through the bifurcated extension 49 of plate 45. Secured to plate 41 by welding or by any convenient means, such as a bracket or clip 50, is a portion of the front wall of the upper compartment; This wall is substantially co-extensive with plate 41. Inwardly and fixed to the lay beam is a bracket 5| which servesas a support for the fixed portion of the bottom and front of the upper compartment.
Clips 52, similar to thoseabove set forth, may connect the bottom and side wall portions. The front walls of both compartments have longitudinal slots which are protected by metal cam plates 53 attached by screws 54 as clearly shown in Fig. VII. The bracket 55 is bent at its top so as to serve as a rest on which the pivoted portion may slideI- A r cooperating bracket 41 is fixed to the pivoted portion and extends downwardly. The bracket 55 and adjusting screw 51 carried by bracket 41 constitute a fixed stop to limit the rearwardmovement of the yielding portion of the upper shuttle box compartment. Rearwardly, as used herein, is defined as rearwardly of the loom, This stop arrangement and the springs 64 firmly hold the pivoted portion 4| in proper alignment with the shuttles for normal weaving. Master bracket 56 is secured to the forward wall of the lay beam 11 by screws 59. Ears 60 extend outwardly from the bracket to serve as a pivot bearing for the spring-controlled bell crank lever 6|, (Fig. I). A roller 62 is pivotally supported between bifurcated end portions of arm 63. Ex-
' tending at substantially right angles to arm 63 is another arm, the upper end of which passes through a perforation or hole in the yielding portion of the bottom of the upper compartment, (Figs. VI and VII). Apair of springs 64 connect laterally extending ears 65 on the bell crank lever 6| with pins 66 which are fixed to the lay beam l1. These springs are of substantial strength and hold the pivoted member 4| firmly in normal weaving position as determined by the adjustable screw 51. This arrangement causes the front wall to function during weaving in the same manner as if it were fixed but allows it to be displaced when the shuttle in the lower compartment is being refilled. Bracket 58 also carries the V-cut ,studs 200 and 2M which engage with a dagger hereinafter more fully set forth to effect movement of the replenishing lever or member.- The studs 260, 21" are adjustably' fixed and of different lengths so that they move the replenishing lever through the proper arc to refill either the upper or lower shuttle.

replenishing lever I88 comprises a yield-head or a compression hammer I8I which is controlled by spring I82 for releasably holding the head to the bobbin element support to prevent damage in the event of improper operation or jamming of the transferring mechanism. Fixed on the shaft 99 is a three-armed lever I83, two arms of which extend above the shaft and between .which .a spring is mounted to cooperate with an offset ear I84 on the loosely mounted replenishing lever proper I88 to effect'a yielding connection. A clock-like spring I85, Fig. III, has one end fixed to the knife rail 88, and the other end to a collar I86 which in turn is fixed to the shaft 99. The purpose of this arrangement is to keep the replenishing lever in retracted 'pbsition against the knife rail 68, as a stop during normal weaving. When the tip of the dagger is lowered, the stop cam lever I83 is lifted and its end I86 is raised to a position higher than the end of cam I81 on the bracket supporting stop screw I81. The forward movement of the three-armed lever I83 and dagger I44, when they are moved by the V-stud 288 on the lay, causes the abutment I89 on the stop cam lever I83 to align itself with the stop screw I81, and to provide a rigid stop. Fixed on the end of the shaft 99, and on the outside of both bearings is a lever I88 comprising a collar and an arm having two special bifurcated constructed end. This end is specially. designed to cooperate with the cradle 98 (Fig. X) which successively positions the bobbins in the magazine channels so that they may be inserted substantially vertically into the exhausted shuttles. The cradle proper comprises a shaft I89 having two supporting members II8 for the bobbin directly above the bobbin in transfer position.- On the end of the shaft I89 there is fixed a sector 94 (Fig. XIII) having circumferentially-spaced indentations, and an arm III which cooperates with the bifurcated arm I88, on the replenishing lever shaft 99. The indentations cooperate with the beforementioned spring controlled yielding latch 93 to hold the bobbin porting members. The bifurcated lever I88, being fixed to the shaft 99, is moved a greater or less extent depending on which shuttle is to be refilled. When the replenishing lever I88 gets its long or short stroke to refill an exhausted shuttle,
the prong I I2 moves completely past the arm I I I, and accordingly moves it and the cradle .98 to the same extent regardless of whether or not a shuttle in the upper or lower box is being refilled.
The prong M3 on its return stroke resets the magazine cradle and allows it to support a new bobbin which has been advanced by gravity. The
supporting members III] of the cradle 98 are so proportioned in respect to the size of the bobbin heads that the entire supply is not forced backwardly during the resetting action, the bobbin being supported by the members II8 before the first bobbin of the group .is forwarded 'to the lower end of the magazine. 8
To the outer end of the weft replenishing lever shaft 99 (Fig. IV) is affixed an arm II4 having a stud I I5 at its upper end capable of turning in the flattened and bored end of a link H8. Small collars III and H8 are fixed on the link. and the collar II'I serves as a shoulder for a spring II9 which surrounds said link and presses through a semi-ball I28 at its other end against a knife arm I2I pivoted on a pin I22. A stop bracket I23 secured by bolts I24, has an upstanding projection I25 which limits the forward movement of the knife lever I2I to a definite position regardless of whether the*replenishing lever is moved to replenish a'shuttle in either the upper or the lower compartment. 8

The shuttles 36, 31 have slots which align with the slots in plate 53 when the shuttle is properly boxed.
Replenishing lever I (Fig. III) carries an intermediate stud I32 on which cam lever I33 is pivotally mounted with the cam portion I34 facing upwardly, and the projection I35 extends through a slot in the knife 68. Accordingly, when the replenishing lever I00 is depressed, the cam lever I33 moves with it and engages a roller I36 at one end of a two-armed hook lever I31 which is pivoted on a stud I31 upstanding from the knife rail 68. The motion of lever I31 imparts a straight rearward thrust to hooks I38,
I39 which are fixed toa carriage I40 (Fig. III). The arm of the lever I31 opposite to that on which the roller is mounted is forked and engages a stud !4I on the carriage I40. A T-shaped groove in member I42 fixed to the knife rail 68 guides the carriage. The hooks I38, I39 engage the threads at a point between the selvage and the inner ends of the front walls of the shuttle compartments on the replenishing side. A selvage cleaner generallyindicated at I43 (Fig. III) removes the end of the weft from the exhausted bobbin and the end from the first pick from the selvage of the woven material. This may be operated from the oscillating lay.
Fig. I shows the replenishing lever shaft 99in substantially the same horizontal plane as the front of the bottom of the top shuttle box com-' partment. This has been found to be even more desirable than position ng it above thisplane in which position the hammer portion I M of the replenishing lever I00 would be moving in the same direction, i. e., forwardly during a portion of the replenishing operation.
At the lower end of the three-armed lever I03, which controls the replenishing lever I00, there is mounted (Fig. IX) a counter-weighted and spring-controlled dagger I44. On said dagger, and extending laterally thereof, are studs I45, I46 which support rollers I41, I48. The spring control comprises a bracket I49 fixed to the under surfaceof the knife rail. A central vertical portion of the bracket has a pair of offset. ears at each side thereof cooperating with rod-like elements I50, II around which compression springs I52 are mounted. Rod I50 is bent at the top, and tends to prevent the dagger I44 from moving upwardly, whereas rod I5I supports the dagger and tends to prevent it from moving downwardly, thus establishing effective contact during replenishment. The dagger arm I44 is thus held in neutral position intermediate the V-cut studs 200 and 20I when the lay is forward during normal weaving.
The dagger I44 is moved at the time of substantial exhaustion of the weft. bobbin to effect replenishment. Stop cam lever I53 is freely pivoted on a pin I53 in bracket I54 which is secured to the under side of the knife rail 68. The movement of cam lever I53 is limited by the base of the bracket and by the adjustable screw I55 (Fig. I) A laterally extending element I56 is fixed on the stop cam lever I53 and projects over dagger I44 for engagement'therewith when the lower shuttle is being refilled, the action being that the dagger lifts the cam lever up against stop screw I55 thus allowing roller 62 on the arm 6| tobe forced downwardly. as the lay advances, to effect yielding of the front wall of the upper compartment A bracket I59 fixed onthe under side'of the I knife rail extends downwardly and serves as a bearing for short shaft I60 and stud I 6| and, together with another bracket I62, as a bearing for the main timing shaft I63 which extends longitudinally of the knife rail 68. Fixed on shaft IE3 is a sprocket wheel I64 driven. by link chain.
I51 (Fig. I). Loosely mounted on shaft I63 for sliding movement but keyed against angular movement is a sleeve'I65 comprising a flange I66 and projecting ears I61 through which a pin I68 is positioned as a pivot about which the head I69 of the dagger rotor I may turn to a limited extent. The shaft I63 makes a complete revolution for every 16 crossings of each shuttle or picks. The distance between rollers I41 and I48 on the dagger represents predetermined and is an odd number of picks when measured by. the number of picks it takes the rotor to pass from one to the other. In the present instance the rollers I41, I48 on the dagger I44 are spaced so that they will co-act with the rotor head I69 on the first and fourth pick of the replenishing cycle. The rotor I10 and timing chain I18 are initially set to effect replenishment at substantial exhaustion. of the first pair of bobbins. No further setting is necessary. The rotor head I69 is capable of yielding in one direction, and is normally held against a stop I61 (Fig. VIII) by means of tension spring I1I (Fig. IX) connected at opposite ends to offset ears respectively on the rotor head I69 and the collar I65. 7
Short shaft I60 'as clearly shown in Fig. VIII carries the fixed sprocket I12 and disc I13. Pivotally mounted for horizontal swinging movement on the bearing hub for the shaft I60 (Fig. VIII) is a two-armed lever I14, one arm of whichefiects I) is aflixed to one end of shaft I63 and accordingly advances the disc- I13 one tooth and the chain one link for every 16 picks. A springpulled lever I92 carries a roller I93 and holds the disc I13 firmly in tooth-meshed position, but allows manual movement if it is desired to set or alter the time of replenishing. v

Operation Preparatory to weaving on a multi-shed loom with two shuttles carrying bobbins with measured wefts of a known length as herein set forth, the timing chain I18 is placed about sprockets I 19 and I80 so that when a set of ears thereon reach the roller I18 to ihitiate replenishment, the measured bobbins will be substantially exhausted and the rotor head I69 will be positioned ahead of rollers I41 and I48 on the dagger I44. The chain, being advanced every 16 picks, :will on bell crankJiI (Fig. I) to passunder and raise a given pick after engaging the roller cause two'- armed lever I14 to shift the sleeve I and hence.
.v-cut stud 200. The forwardly moving lay will carry the dagger forwardly with it and turn three-armed lever I03 about its shaft 99 against the action of the clock-like spring. This motion of the three-armed lever causes the replenishing lever to descend and engage a full bobbin in the magazine 61, such engagement taking place bemovement of both the lay and the replenishing lever causes the new bobbin to be inserted-in the upper shuttle and the exhausted bobbin to be concurrently ejected therefrom. The downward motion of replenishing lever I00 and the concurrent rotation of the carriage lever I31 causes the hooks I38, I39 on the carriage to be moved inwardly and the upper hook to. engage the weft of the-upper shuttle. Simultaneously, shaft 99 and link I I6 moves the shears inward where they are cammed to closed position as they enter further into plate 53, and cut the weft from the old bobbin as the lay moves forwardly. The V-stud 200 moves away from the dagger and allows shaft 99 andreplenishing lever to be returned to their original positions by the clock spring. The hooks are withdrawn, carrying with them the cut end of the exhausted bobbin, and. the cutters are returned to their original posi tion. The rearward motion of the lay permits the weft caught on the hook, to be completely withdrawn from the shuttle box.
Simultaneously withactuation of the replenishing lever I00, the link I08 moves ,downwardly and turns the notched sector 94 as clearly shown in Figs. XII and XIII to advance a bobbin in the magazine. The reverse movement of shaft 99 moves sector 94 back to its original position. In the meantime, the exhausted bobbin has passed down through the lay'beam freefrom the loom.
On the fourth pick, the rotor head engages roller I49 and moves the daggerup into the path of V-stud MI. The action is similar to that above described except that stud ZIII moves the dagger a greater distance to replenish'the lower shuttle. Elevation of dagger I44 raises cam lever I53 by means of the laterally extended element I56 on the latter and allows the roller 62 of the said cam lever up against adjustable screw I55. Continued inward motion of the lay causes the bellcrank to pivot about its, fulcrum and move.

Having thus described our invention, we claim:
1. In a multi-shed-loom, the combination of a movable lay, picking mechanism on both sides of the lay, a pair ofbobbin carrying shuttles adapted to be simultaneously picked from opposite sides of, the lay, a shuttle box mounted on one side of the movable .lay having superposed upper and lower shuttle compartments, said lay and compartments having a continuous opening sumciently large for a shuttle bobbin to pass through, a magazine for filled bobbins, a weft replenishing mechanism comprising a member movable two predetermined diiferent downward extents to engage a full bobbin in the magazine and project in into a shuttle in either the upper or lower shuttle compartment depending on the extent the member is moved, means for determining the extent of the movement of the member and actuating means for said member and determining means.
2. In a multi-shed loomfthe combination f a movable lay, picking mechanism on both sides of the lay, a pair of bobbin carrying shuttles adapted to be simultaneously picked from opposite sides of the layha'shuttle box mounted on one side of the movable lay having superposed upper and lower shuttle compartments, said lay and compartments having a continuous opening sufficiently large for ashuttle bobbin to pass through; a magazine for filled bobbins, weft replenishing mechanism comprising a member movable two predetermined downward extents to engage a shuttle in the magazine and to project it into either the upper or the lower shuttle box depending on the extent the member is moved; resiliently mounted cuttin'gmeans operatively connected to the member and movable the same amount for either movement of the member, a stop for said cutting means, means for determin- 10 ing the extent of movement of the member and actuating means for said member, cutting means and determining means.

In a multi-shed loom, having a movable lay, picking mechanism on both sides of the loom, a pair of bobbin carrying shuttles adapted to be simultaneously picked from opposite sides of the lay, a shuttle box mounted on one side of the movable lay having superposed upper and lower compartments, a weft replenishing mechanism comprising a member movable two predetermined difierent downward extents respectively into the upper and lower shuttle compartments, 2. resil- V iently mounted cutting means operatively conneoted to the member and movable the same amount on either movement of the member, a
stopior said cutting means, means for predetermining the extent the member is moved, comprising a pivoted dagger having a pair of elements laterally of said dagger but on opposite sides of 36 the pivot point so that the dagger may be moved upwardly and downwardly to position the dagger,
means to engage the dagger when it is so posi- I tioned to move it and the member to one of the fixed extents as the lay moves forwardly, timing' 5 means comprising a replenishing. initiating means which advances after a plurality of picks, means coordinating the timing means with the pivoted dagger, and a continuous driving means for said timing means.

a pair of bobbin carrying shuttles adapted to be simultaneously picked from opposite sides of the lay, a shuttle box mounted on one side of the movable lay having superposed upper and lower compartments, a weft replenishing mechanism comprising a member movable two predetermined difierent downward extents respectively into the upper and lower shuttle compartments, a resiliently mounted cutting means operatively connected to the member and movable the same amount on either movement of the member, a stop for said outing means, means for determining the extent the member is moved, comprising a pivoted dagger having a pair of elements laterally of said dagger but on opposite sides of the pivot point so that the dagger may be moved upwardly and downwardly to position the dagger, means to engage the dagger when it is so positioned to 60.1Il0Ve it and the member to one of the fixed extents as the lay moves forwardly, timing means comprising a replenishing initiating means, a sleeve with a head and a shaft, said sleeve being movable on-the shaft undercontrol of the timing 0:; means to position the head in alignment with the elements on the dagger at predetermined times. 21. In a multi-shed loom having a movable lay, picking mechanism on both sides of the loom, a
pair of bobbin carrying shuttles adapted to be 7 simultaneously picked fromopposite sides of the lay, a shuttle mounted on one side of the movable lay having superposed upper and lower shuttle compartments, weft replenishing mechanism comprising a member movable two predetermined different downward extents respectivelyinto the one of the fixed extents as the lay moves forwardly, timing means comprising a replenishing initiating means which advances after a plurality of picks, means coordinating the timing means with the dagger, a. continuous driving means for said timing means, and means for yieldingly holding the initiating means in position while it is at rest.
22. In a multi-shed loom, a movable lay, picking mechanism on both sides of the lay, a pair of bobbin carrying shuttles adapted to be simultaneously picked by the picking mechanism from opposite sides of the lay, a shuttle box mounted.
on one side of the movable lay having superposed upper and lower shuttle compartments, a magazine for filled bobbins, said magazine comprising a yielding support for a single bobbin, and a cradle to support the remaining bobbins in a magazine and to permit one of said bobbins to advance to the support, a member movable two predetermined difierent downward extents into respectively the upper and lower shuttle compartments when the lay is substantially. in forward position, stops for said member, means for predetermining the extent ,of movement of said member and additional'means operated by the member to move the cradle the same extent when either the upper or lower shuttle is being replenished.
23. In a multi-shed loom, a movable lay, pick-,
ing mechanism on both sides of the lay,a.pair' of bobbin carrying shuttles adapted to be'simultaneously picked from opposite sides of the lay, a shuttle box mounted on one side of the movable lay having superposed upper and lower shuttle compartments, a magazine for filled bobbins, said magazine comprising a support for a single bobbin and a cradle to support there maining bobbinsand to permit one of. said bobbins to advance to the support, a member movable two predetermined difierent downwardextents respectively into, the upper and lower shuttle compartments when the lay is substantially in forward position, stops for said member, resiliently mounted cutting means positively connected to the member and movable the same amount on either movement of the member, a
stop for said cutting means, means for predetermining the movement of said member and additional means positively connected to the membe r to move the cradle the same extent who either the upper or lower shuttle is being r plenished, means to withdraw said member from either shuttle compartment and to reset the cradle operating means, cradle and cutting means.

In a multi-shed loom, a movable lay picle ing mechanism on both sides or the lay', a pair of bobbin carrying shuttles adapted to be simultaneously picked from opposite sides of the lay, a shuttle box mounted on one side of the mow able lay having superposed upper and lower shuttle compartments, a magazlne'for filled bobbins, said magazine comprising a support for a single bobbin and a cradle to support the ,remaining bobbins and to permit one of said bobbins to advance to'the support, a member movable two' predeterrr'iined different downward extents respectively into the upper and lower shuttle compartments when the lay is substantially in forward position, stops for said member,
' upwardly or downwardly to position the dagger,
resiliently mounted cutting means positively connected to the member and movable the same amount on either movement of the member, a stop for said cutting means, means forpredetermining the extent of movement of said member comprising a pivoted dagger having a pair of elements on said dagger but on opposite sides of the pivot point, mea.ns to tilt the dagger either means to engage the dagger when so positioned to move it and the member to one of the fixed extents, whereby the single bobbin is transferred into the shuttle and the bobbin in the shuttle ejected, additional means operatively connectedto the member to move the crade and the cutting means the same amount when either the upper or lower shuttle is being replenished, means to withdraw said member from either shuttle compartment and to reset the dagger, the cradle operating means, the cradle and cutting means.

a shuttle box mounted on one side of the movable lay having superposed upper and .lower shuttle compartments, a magazine for filled bobbins, said magazine comprising a support for a single bobbin and a cradle to support the remaining bobbins and to permit one of said bobbins to advance to the support, a member movable two predetermined different downward extents respectively'into the upper and lower shuttle compartments when the layis substantially in ,forward position, stops for said member, resiliently mounted cutting means positively connected to the member and movable the same amount on either movement of the member, a stop for said cutting means, means for predetermining the extent of movement or the said member comprising a pivoted dagger having a pair of elements on said dagger but on opposite sides of the pivot point, means to tilt the dagger upwardly and downwardly to position the dagger, means to engage the dagger when so positioned to moveit and the member to one of the fixed extents, whereby the single bobbin is transferred into the shuttle and the bobbin in the shuttle ejected, additional means operatively connected to the member to move the cradle and cutting means the same amount when either the upper or lower shuttle is being replenished, timing means comprising a replenished initiating means, a sleeve and a shaft, said sleeve being movable on the shaft to a position in alignment with the members on the dagger at predetermined times, means for yieldingly holding the initiating means while it is at rest and means to withdraw saidmember from either shuttle compartment and to reset the dagger, the cradle operating means, cradle and cutting means.

In a multi-shed loom, the combination of a movable lay, picking mechanismat both sides of the lay, a pair of bobbin-carrying shuttles adapted to be simultaneously picked from opposite sides of lay, a shuttle box mounted on one side oi the movable lay, having superposed upper and lower shuttle compartments, said lay and compartments having a continuous opening sufilciently large for a shuttle bobbin to pass through, a magazine for filled bobbins, a filled bobbin in said magazine; axweft refilling mecha-- nism comprising a member movable two predetermined difierent extents to engage a full bobbin in the magazine and to-move' it into a shuttle in either the upper or lower shuttle compartment depending upon the extent the member is moved, a front wall for said'upper box having aportion aligned with the full bobbin to guide the shuttle while it is being boxed and being clear of the path of the full bobbin and movable member during. refilling of the shuttle in the lower compartment, means for determin-v ing the extent of the movement of the 'member,
and actuating means for said member.

In a double shuttle loom,'a-movable lay; a shuttle box with two superposed verticallyaligned shuttle compartments at each side of the loom mounted on the lay; a pair of shuttles; 3 means for concurrently throwing the shuttles across the lay in opposite directions between corresponding compartments of the respective shuttle boxes; 9. magazine for filled bobbins on one side of the loom; and means movable two diiferent extents relatively to said shuttle compartments to vertically-replace bobbins in the respective shuttles with filled bobbins from the magazine at different times while said shuttles respectively rest temporarily in their respective compartments in one of the shuttle boxes; means for selecting in which of either shuttle compart 'ment a shuttle is to be replenished and actuating means for the movable means whereby to transfer a bobbin into a shuttle in the selected compartment. In a loom, a. movable lay, a pair of automatic weft replenishing bobbin'shuttles; picking mechanism for picking the shuttles oppositely and simultaneously across the lay; a shuttle box mounted at one side of the lay, having a pair of superposed vertically-aligned shuttle compartments and a straight bobbin passage extending therethrough, for boxing the shuttles; a bobbin support; means for engaging a bobbin on the support and transferring it vertically into a shuttle in either compartment of the shuttle box and means for giving said first named means either of two extents of movement and means for governing the extent of movement.
29. In a multiple shed loom, a movable lay, a
pair of shuttles; a shuttle box mounted at one side of the lay having an upper and under superposed vertically-aligned shuttle compartment, with a vertical opening extending continuously therethrough; weft replenishing mechanism including a bobbin displacing member for passing it two difiierent extents into the vertical opening of the shuttle box in selectively replenishing exhausted individual shuttles. respectively in the mechanism including abobbin displacing member arranged to be passed into the vertical opening of the shuttle box; and a' pivoted actuating element to cause said member to be thrust two different extents into the shuttle box in selec tively replenishing exhausted individual shuttles respectively in the respective compartments; means for giving said pivoted actuating element either of the selected extents of movement and means for governing said selection.

In a multiple shed loom, a movable lay; a pair of shuttles; a shuttle box mounted at one side of the lay having two-superposed verticallyaligned shuttle compartments with a straight vertical opening extending continuously therethrough; weft replenishing mechanism including a lay-actuated member arranged to be passed two different extents into the vertical opening of the shuttle box in selectively replenishing exhausted individual shuttles respectively in the respective compartments; means for giving said member either of the selected extents of movement and meansfor governing said selection.

In a loom, a movable lay, a pair of automatic weft replenishing bobbin shuttles; a shuttle box mounted at one side of the lay, having a pair of superposed vertically-aligned compartments for boxing the shuttles; a bobbin support; means for engaging a bobbin on the support and for transferring it vertically-into a shuttle in either of the compartments of the shuttle box;-
means for giving said first named means either of the selected extents of movement and means for governing said selection.

In a loom, a movable lay, a pair of automatic weft replenishing bobbin shuttles; a shuttle boxmounted at one side of the lay, having a pair of superposed vertically-aligned compartments for boxing the shuttles; a bobbin support; means for engaging a bobbin on the support and for transferring it vertically into a shuttle in either of the compartments of the shuttle box; means to be selected for predetermining the extent of movement of the said bobbin engaging means; means to select said predetermining means and 34. shuttle box mounted at one side of the lay, having a pair of superposed vertically-aligned compartments in a continuous vertical bobbin passage therethrough; a bobbin transfer means arranged to pass riown through the upper compartment and beyond to an extent sufiicient to transfer a bobbin into a shuttle in the lower compartment; means for selecting the time of such passage and actuating means for said bobbin transfer means.

In a loom, a movable lay, a pair of automatic weft replenishing shuttlesrpicking mechanism for picking the shuttles oppositely and simultaneously across the loom; a. shuttle box on one side of the lay, having a pair of aligned shuttle compartments and a continuous bobbin passage extending therethrough; a bobbin support; means movable to either of two extents to engage a bobbin on the support and to transfer it into a. shuttle in either of the compartments of the shuttle box; means for giving said first named means either of the two extents of movement and means for governing'the extent of movement.
36. A loom in accordance with claim 28 wherei in the shuttle box has a swell for each compartment on the same side of the shuttle box, a yieldable portion on the upper compartment on the side opposite the swells and means to move said yieldable portion to provide clearance for the transfer means as the lay approaches front center for replenishing a shuttle in the lower compartment.

In a loom in accordance with claim 28 wherein the shuttle box has swells on the rear of both shuttle compartments, a yieldable portion on the upper compartment on the side opposite theswells; means mounted on a fixed part of the loom to "move said yieldable portion to provide clearance for the transfer means as the lay approaches front center for replenishing a shuttlein the lower compartment.
