Abstract

689,263. Hypodermic syringes. HUSLER, S. HERTIG-, and HERTIG, W. Oct. 3, 1950 [May 25, 1950], No. 24177/50. Class 81 (ii). A piston syringe is provided with a casing having a lower supporting flange and enclosing a glass barrel against the upper rim of which a sealing cap for the casing abuts, a needle holder being clamped between the supporting flange and the barrel, contiguous faces of the needle holder and the barrel being in the form of truncated cones. A glass cylinder 1 is provided with upper and lower conical rims 7, 8. A connecting piece 24 for a needle has a conical bearing surface 26 which is held against the lower conical rim 8 of the cylinder 1 by a flange 14 of the cylinder casing 9. The casing 9 has internal screw threads 11, 12 near its upper end either of which may engage with an external screw thread 21 on a sleeve 20 projecting from a head 15. When the lower screw thread 12 on the casing 9 is in engagement with the screw thread 21 on the sleeve 20, the upper rim 7 of the cylinder bears tightly against a conical lower rim 23 of the sleeve 20 and the connecting piece 25 for the needle is held tightly against the lower rim 8 of the cylinder 1. On adjusting the head 15, the upper screw thread 11 of the casing 9 may be brought into engagement with the screw thread 21 on the sleeve 20 so that the parts of the syringe are loosened for sterilisation, the sterilising means being introduced by holes 22 in the sleeve 20. In a modification (not shown) the casing 9 may be externally screwthreaded near its upper end and the projecting sleeve may form part of a closure cap for the syringe.
