Abstract

689,052. Haymaking. PIERCE & CO., Ltd., P. June 8, 1951 [May 9, 1950], No. 11498/50. Class 6(iii) A swath-turner is provided with rakes 15 driven from the land wheels 9 10 by gearing mounted as a unit in the casing 17 which is adjustably mounted on transverse frame members 18, 19, the rakes being rockable in a vertical plane about the shaft 12. As shown bevel gears 13a 13b rotate in side bearings 24 25 mounted on the casing 17. A clutch member 11 is provided with teeth 30 which co-operate with teeth 31 on the gears 13a, 13b and a spur wheel 27 is keyed to the clutch member 11 which is rotatably mounted on the shaft 12 but retained in position by projection 32. The shaft 12 is moved transversely by a handle 34 to allow the clutch to engage either of the gears 13a, 13b to drive the rake shaft in either direction, the spur 27 being driven from the axle 8 through spur pinions 7a, 7b, 7c. The rakes are mounted on shafts rotating in a casing 39 provided with arms 40, 41 which are pivotally mounted on shaft 12 to allow the rakes to be raised or lowered by means of a handle 44. The rakes are transversely adjusted by means of handles 16.
