Abstract

A process of preparing a dental amalgam comprises forming a compact containing metal powder of different particle size, the powder being prepared from a dental alloy containing 60-75 per cent of Ag, powdering the compact under a slight pressure to produce a powder of different particle size and mixing the powder with mercury. The compact may consist of coarser particles passing a sieve having 1,600 meshes per square centimeter and a third of the total weight consists of particles whose individual weight is about one-fiftieth of that of the coarser particles. The compact is preferably in tablet form and mercury may be added to the powder by a measuring dispensing device. The metal may consist of Ag and Sn with or without copper or zinc.
