Abstract
688,718. Crates. STERNER, O. F. Sept. 25, 1950, No. 23399/50. Class 18 A crate for containing a stack of trays of eggs or other piece goods, comprises a base 1 and an open ended rectangular wall member 3 which is passed over the trays stacked on the base. The ends 8 of the member 3 carry metal frames 10 movable longitudinally in recesses as permitted by pins 11 and slots 12. A board 6 is passed under the base 1 between guides 2, and through the frames 10 and recesses 7 in the member 3. A closure 4 is placed on the stack, the frames are lifted to engage recesses 13 in the board 6 and a board 9 passed through recesses 7a in the member 3 and through the frames 10. Pins 14 are passed through holes in the frames into the board 9 to secure the filled crate. The empty trays may be secured in a diminished volume of the crate by passing the board 9 through slots 16 in the member 3 under stirrups 15 of the frames 10. In lieu of the metal frames, bars carrying loops at either end, for engaging the boards 6. 9, may be used. The sides may be of open-work construction.
