Abstract

688,594. Protective cut-out arrangements. ELECTRICITE DE FRANCE. April 19, 1951 [Aug. 29, 1950], No. 9203/51. Class 38 (v) A selective protection arrangement has a directional relay a, a<SP>1</SP>, preferably of the wattmetric type, at each end A, B of the protected line L, the relays controlling the energization of tripping relays b, b<SP>1</SP> by means of an alternating current pilot circuit having transformers T1, T2. In the arrangement shown, should a fault occur outside the protected section at X, the relay a closes, but relay a<SP>1</SP> remains open, so that the relay b<SP>I</SP> cannot be energized. The nilot circuit P is energized from the a.c. source S, but the impedance of the circuit including the relay b, the transformers T1, T2 and the pilots P is such that the current flowing is insufficient to operate relay b. If a fault occurs outside the protected section at Z, relay a does not operate, so that the pilot system remains de-energized and the relays b, b<SP>1</SP> are not operated. Should a fault occur within the protected section at Y, both relays a, a<SP>1</SP> close and since the secondary circuit C<SP>1</SP> of the transformer T2 is now complete, the impedance of the pilot system-is low enough for relay b to operate. Relay b<SP>1</SP> also operates and the circuit-breakers D, D<SP>1</SP> at each end of the protected section L are tripped:
