Abstract

155,095. Hawkins, H., Hanstock, W. H., Higgs, A. H., and Ferranti, Ltd. Nov. 11, 1919. Protective arrangements.-In a protective system for an alternating-current network, iron-core ring transformers are arranged at both ends of each protected feeder, the secondaries being connected in a pilot-wire circuit with relays to cause the operation of the circuit-breakers. Parallel three-core feeders a, a<1> are shown in Fig. 1 with oil switches b, b<1> at their ends, and with ring transformers c, c<1> of the type described in Specification 12685/09. If a fault occurs in a core of cne of the feeders, the unbalanced current induces an electromotive force in the transformer secondaries. This causes a current to flow in the pilot circuit to operate the relays e, thereby closing the trip circuits of the oil switches b or b<1>. The switches on the healthy feed are not operated as the currents in the transformer secondaries on that feeder oppose each other.
