An identifying or protective ferrule for a cable end is detachably engageable with an adjacent ferrule and provided with anchoring means securing it against angular movement relative to the adjacent ferrule. The ferrule 10 may be circular, and is provided with a spigot 11 carrying a key 12 at one end, and a socket 13 having a keyway 14 at the other end. A number of such ferrules are connected together, and each carries an identifying mark 15 in the same angular position relative to the key.. A modified ferrule having a socket 13 and keyway 14 but no spigot may be used at one end of the assembly, the other end having a ferrule with a spigot 11 and key 12 but no socket. These modified ferrules provide a continuous cylindrical contour to the assembly.
