Abstract
688,080. Testing the balance of wheels. BRADBURY & SONS, Ltd., J., and POWELL, V. Dec. 1, 1950, No. 29508/50. Class 106 (ii). A support for a device for testing the balance of wheels comprises a shaft adapted to receive the said device in a manner permitting it to rotate around the axis of the shaft, a mounting for said shaft arranged to permit same to be turned from a substantially vertical position to a horizontal position and vice-versa, and means arranged to locate the shaft in the horizontal position. The shaft 1, Fig. 1, is rotatably supported in a sleeve 2 by ball-bearings, not shown. The sleeve 2 is provided with two projecting pins 3 which enter slots 4 in the sides of a support 6, Figs. 1 and 2. The sleeve 2 has two positions. In the first it is retained in a horizontal position by the top 6b of the support 6. In the second position the sleeve 2 and shaft 1 are vertical, the end 8 of the shaft engages a socket 9 and is thereby prevented from rotating. The wheel to be tested is fitted against the device X on the shaft 1 in its vertical position and then the shaft is moved to its horizontal position. The socket 9 consists of a hole in a plate 9a which has a ramp 11 and is mounted on a bridge 10 secured to the support 6. Specification 687,779 is referred to.
