Abstract
687,884. Linear dimension gauges. WHEATLEY, A. S. Sept. 19, 1951 [Nov. 1, 1950], No. 26660/50. Class 106 (ii). [Also in Group VI] Gut casings are gauged for internal diameter by drawing them over a nozzle 8 at one end of a pipe 7 mounted with a tap 3 on a union 2. Water flows from the nozzle 8 and the gut is passed over the nozzle on to the pipe 7 until the diameter is such that the casing will not pass over the nozzle. The gut is then broken off and a smaller nozzle substituted and the process is repeated. In a modified form of nozzle, Fig. 4, a transverse jet of water is also provided by the small holes 15 drilled at right angles to the main bore 11. The interchangeable nozzles are secured by means of a bayonet joint 12 to the pipe 7. The pipe 7 is arranged to cut off the water supply when rotated through 90 degrees by means of a valve 5 to facilitate nozzle changing.
