Abstract
687,805. Shutters. POLLNER, A. G., and FISHENDEN, L. Nov. 1, 1951 [Nov. 29, 1950], No. 29243/50. Class 20(iii) Shutters comprising hinged slats 4 capable of rolling into a curved formation out of the plane of a doorway &c. are fitted on opposite edges with projecting slider heads with forked ends engaging a guide rail, the heads on either or both edges being spring loaded towards the rail. As shown in Fig. 2, the slider head comprises cylindrical plunger 5 slotted to engage the guide rail 6 and housed in a socket 2 which is attached to a slat by a lug 3. The threaded inner end of the plunger passes through a hole in the socket and receives adjusting and lock nuts 11 whereby the extent the plunger projects from the socket and the compression of a loading spring 10 may be varied. The opposite slider heads, Fig. 5, need not be spring-loaded but may include a ball bearing within an axial bore of the plunger and projecting slightly through an opening in the base so that it may run on the top edge of the rail 6a. It is held against its seating by a loose pin 17 engaged at the other end by a ball 18. The plunger is retained in position by a grub screw which takes into a circumferential groove 13 to permit of sliding during assembly. The end slats of the shutter may have a double slider head having a socket at each end of a connecting web. Shutters with horizontally disposed slats may be similarly fitted.
