Abstract

<PICT:0687741/III/1> A mixer suitable for calcium superphosphate manufacture comprises a chamber open and unobstructed at the bottom, the mixing chamber proper being in the form of a truncated cone with the larger diameter at the bottom, and a rotor on a vertical shaft 15, the rotor carrying a number of superposed tiers of blades 16, 17, 18 increasing in diameter towards the bottom. Powdered natural phosphate passing through conduit 13 falls on to the blades and is mixed with sulphuric or phosphoric acid introduced tangentially through nozzles 11 in a direction opposite to that of the rotation of the mixing blades. The mixer rests on a ring 25 on the roof of the reaction chamber 22, which may be under slightly reduced pressure.
