Abstract

687,458. Road vehicle bodies. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. June 29, 1951 [Aug. 18, 1950], No. 15539/51. Class 108 (i). An intermediate body pillar has greater thickness longitudinally of the body on the outside than on the inside. The pillar comprises sheet-metal members 27, 28 secured by their flanges 33, 28b and closed on the inside by a channel member 38. Secured to appropriate parts are hinge brackets of generally L-section having a short outer leg 35 and a longer inwardly extending leg 36 provided with an embossment 36a to which the channel-like hinge mounting 48 is secured by screws 52. The mounting 48 carries the hinge pin 47 on which the goose-neck type hinge 46 supporting the rear door C is mounted. The cross-section of the pillar is larger in the lower part than in the upper part in the neighbourhood of the door window.
