Abstract
686,643. Loose leaf binders; bookbinding. TRUSSELL, C. D. March 12, 1951. [March 17, 1950] No. 5916/51. Classes 16 and 146 (i). A binding for sheets, which may be used for a permanent binding or for loose leaves, comprises a tubular rib 7 having integral ring- forming fingers 8 projecting from one side and slots 9 in the opposite side to receive the ends of the rings 8, the rings being flexible and springy and set to close to a diameter less than that formed by the entry of the ends of the rings 8 into the slots 9 so that the rings are held therein by spring tension. The rings 8, which have straight and smooth side edges, will normally extend through the slots 9 to contact the inner opposite wall 10 of the rib 7 so that the rings are then of uniform size. To assist in opening the rings 8, die members 11, 13 are provided, having concave and convex surfaces 12, 14, respectively with a greater radius than the normal radius of the ring 8, the die member 13 being shaped to enter all the rings 8 as shown. Guiding surfaces on the dies 11, 13 may be provided for aligning the ring ends for entering the slots. Specification 673,133 is referred to.
