Abstract
686,611. Switching systems for resistance welding machines. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. July 13, 1950 [July 16, 1949], No. 17541/50. Class 38 (iv). In order to deliver a predetermined amount of energy to a resistance weld, an electronic tube device 1 provides an output voltage which is continuously proportional to the power in the welding circuit, the voltage being integrated by a circuit 2, 3 and applied in opposition to an adjustable hold-off voltage (obtained from source 5) to a tube 4 which conducts when the integrated voltage overcomes the hold-off voltage and energizes a relay 6 for terminating the weld. The tube device 1 may comprise a pair of tubes 9, Fig. 2, having their grids energized in push-pull by current transformers 12 in accordance with the instantaneous current in the welding circuit and their anode circuits energized by the voltage obtaining in the welding circuit, so that a voltage proportional to the power in the welding circuit appears across terminals 8. In another arrangement four tubes operate in a full-wave circuit making use of both half-waves of the welding circuit voltage. Alternatively, the anodes may be fed with D.C., the voltages proportional to the welding current and voltage being both injected into the grid circuits.
