A clothes-washing machine agitator of the type located against one of the walls of the container with its driving shaft extending perpendicularly through such wall comprises a boss 4 having radially extending vanes 5 which curve rearwardly to the direction of rotation. Each vane 5 may have a circular or elliptical cross section, and the vanes may all lie in one plane or may be staggered slightly.
