A hair brush comprises a back of moulded synthetic plastic material provided with a multiplicity of synthetic plastic solid bristles of a cross-sectional area to permit each bristle to function independently, each bristle being spaced from every other bristle throughout its length, and each being independently secured and sealed in an opening in the back by thermosetting cement. The brush back may be moulded in an automatic injection moulding machine and the bristle openings may be formed during or after the moulding; suitable plastics are methyl methacrylate, vinyl resins e.g. polystyrenes, and the cellulose acetates. The bristles may be filaments of stretch oriented nylon. The openings for the bristles may be holes for individual bristles or grooves of the width of a single bristle and adapted to receive a plurality of spaced bristles. A suitable cement is a phenolic resin. According to Figs. 1 and 5, a handled back 10 is provided with openings 13 receiving bristles 12 secured by thermo-setting cement 14; the bristles, having a free length of about 1 inch, have a diameter of 0.025 to 0.032 inch, and are so spaced that the brush serves to comb and brush the hair. The modified brush of Fig. 6 has the back provided with longitudinal grooves 16 and is provided with bristles of lesser diameter than those of Fig. 1 and there are more of them; this brush is more suitable for general hair brush purposes.
