Abstract
686,371. Hydraulic shock absorbers; dashpots. CLOUDSLEY, J. L. Jan. 5, 1948, No. 36122/46. Divided out of 664,491. Class 108 (iii). [Also in Group XXIX] A hydraulic shockabsorber assembly for embodiment in either the piston or base assembly of the shockabsorber comprises a recuperating valve 2b past which the displaced liquid flows relatively freely in one direction, and a liquid flow restricting means consisting of a resiliently yieldable valve 1 operating in series with a liquid flow restricting aperture 6 through both of which all the displaced liquid flows in the operative stroke of the shock-absorber, the flow capacity of the aperture 6 being such that when the valve 1 has opened to a predetermined degree the rate of liquid flow thereafter is determined entirely by the size of the aperture. As shown, the valve 1 is of tubular form and co-operates with a seating or stop 5. It is loaded by a spring 4 which also loads the recuperating valve 2b. The latter co-operates with apertures 2a in the base of a piston 3. The aperture 6 is formed in a plate 7. The plate 7 may form one of a series having apertures of different sizes.
