Abstract
686,010. Actuation of switches. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and LOWE, J. M. Jan. 5,1951 [Jan. 12, 1950], No. 799/50. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group V] A pressure-sensitive switch which is closed by the pressure of plastic material thereon to stop further injection of plastic material into a mould (see Group V) comprises, Fig. 2, a casing 12 sheathed in silicone rubber 13 and having at one end a plunger 16 carrying a contact 20. The other contact 23 is in the form of a threaded rod 22 carried by a block 21 based on a ring 28 screwed into casing 12. A spring 26 urges plunger 16 to the seated position shown. When the pressure of the plastic material is exerted against the rubber diaphragm 13a forming the end of the casing, plunger 16 is pushed inwards against the resistance of the spring to close the contacts. The ring 28 may be adjusted to vary the pressure of the spring and the rod 22 may be adjusted and locked by a nut 24. An insulated wire passes through groove 31 and is connected to contact 20. The diaphragm 13a may be cup-shaped, the casing 12 being otherwise bare Fig. 3 (not shown), or may be replaced by a resilient metal diaphragm 61, Fig. 4, the spring and plunger being in this case omitted.
