Abstract

868,540. Cam-operated switches. HUBBELL Inc., HARVEY. Dec. 2, 1959, No. 40997/59. Class 38 (5). The operating member of a cam-operated switch comprises a preferably hollow button 41 of nylon or a similar plastic material having moulded integrally therewith a springy blade 52 of the same material. The switch body is assembled by securing together two halves 11, 12 by screws 13 threaded into a fixing-plate 14 which also carries lugs (not shown) for mounting the switch in a wall-box. The operating button 41 is pivoted at one end 45 between the upper body portion 12 and the fixing-plate 14, the other end 47 being spring-urged against a rubber stop 48 also fixed between the upper body 12 and the fixing-plate 14, and a cover-plate 16 is screwed to the fixing-plate. Each depression of the operating button 41 causes the integral blade 52 to turn a ratchet-wheel 35, and hence a cam-wheel 32, one step, alternate high and low cam-surfaces co-operating with a lug 53 on a spring blade 18, fixed at one end to the switch body 11, to alternate a moving contact 20 between two fixed contacts 26, 30 with successive depressions of the button 41. A second cam-wheel 32 is provided behind the ratchetwheel 35 in order that a second contact-blade 18, and co-operating contacts, may be incorporated, if desired.
