Abstract
685,818. Inductances. MALLORY & CO., Inc., P. R. April 17, 1951 [April 18, 1950], No. 8925/51. Class 38 (ii). A variable inductance comprises a rectangular sectioned conductor 60 which is wound in a spiral manner on the face of an insulating member 27 so that the edge 64 is fixedly embedded in the member. A moving contact member comprising two relatively movable parts 113, 114 is adapted to be rotated by means of a shaft member 82 so that as the contact member is rotated the brush 116 travels over the spiral so as to alter the effective length of the conductor thereby to vary the inductance of the device. The member 113 is in contact during rotation with a terminal 38 by means of a brush 118, the other terminal 37 being fixedly connected to the end 61 of the spirally wound coil. Stop mechanism is provided to give end limits to the travel of the moving contact and also to give intermediate positions. A number of such inductance units may be mounted one behind the other and the contact members driven from a common shaft, the whole assembly being enclosed in a dust-proof container.
