Abstract
Zinc lupetidinedithiocarbamate for use in a rubber mix (see Group V) is prepared by adding lupetidine to a mixture of carbon disulphide and sodium hydroxide solution, filtering off the sodium lupetidinedithiocarbamate thus formed and then adding zinc chloride solution and washing the resultant precipitate of zinc lupetidine dithiocarbamate.ALSO:Rubber articles are obtained by compounding rubber latex with sulphur, a vulcanizing accelerator comprising a salt of a N- substitute dithiocarbamic acid and 1-20 parts by weight of a salt of an alkyl xanthate for every 100 parts by weight of the dithiocarbamate, adding a gelling agent, shaping and gelling the mixture and then vulcanizing. A sponge product may be obtained by foaming the mix in a frothing machine after the addition of sodium ricinoleate. The metal salt of a N- substituted dithiocarbamic acid is preferably water insoluble, specified compounds being the dithiocarbamate of zinc pentamethylene, zinc phenyl methyl, zinc lupetidine (made by the method described in Group IV (b)), and of solenium diethyl; water soluble dithiocarbamates such as those of sodium pentamethylene, sodium dimethyl and sodium dibutyl may however be used. The preferred xanthates are sodium, potassium, ammonium or zinc, isopropyl xanthates. The gelling agent may be sodium silicofluoride, and zinc oxide, and mercaptobenzthiazole may also be added.
