Abstract

An adhesive solution, for application to nets, (see Group IV (c)), comprises a synthetic linear polyamide, e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide, polypentamethylene sebacamide, and an interpolyamide or polyesteramide, in a mixture of an aliphatic alcohol boiling below 200 DEG C., formaldehyde or a formaldehyde donor, e.g. paraformaldehyde, and an unsubstituted liquid fatty acid, and /or a mixture of an aliphatic hydroxy acid and formaldehyde or formaldehyde donor, with or without water. Specified alcohols are methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl and amyl alcohols. Specified fatty acids are formic, acetic, propionic, butyric and valeric acids. Specified hydroxy acids, which may be employed in the form of acid salts and partial esters, are glycollic, lactic and citric acids, and ethyl and potassium hydrogen tartrate. Diluents, e.g. benzyl alcohol and ethyl lactate, plasticizers, p e.g. polyethylene oxide and ricinoleic acid, and pigments or dyestuffs, e.g. bronze powder, may be added to the solution.ALSO:Slippage of knots in synthetic linear polyamide nets is prevented by applying thereto, or to the yarn during or before knotting, a solution made by dissolving, with heat if necessary, a synthetic linear polyamide in a mixture of an aliphatic alcohol boiling below 200 DEG C., formaldehyde or a formaldehyde donor, e.g. paraformaldehyde, and an unsubstituted liquid fatty acid and/or a mixture of an aliphatic hydroxy acid and formaldehyde or formaldehyde donor, with or without water, and removing the solvent by evaporation. Specified polyamides are polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide, polypentamethylene sebacamide, interpolyamides and polyesteramides. Specified alcohols are methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl and amyl alcohols. Specified fatty acids are formic, acetic, propionic, butyric and valeric acids. Specified hydroxy acids, which may be employed in the form of acid salts and partial esters, are glycollic, lactic and citric acids and ethyl and potassium hydrogen tartrate. To the solutions diluents, e.g. benzyl alcohol and ethyl lactate, plasticizers, e.g. polyethylene oxide and ricinoleic acid, and pigments or dyestuffs, e.g. bronze powder, may be added.
